So, my sister asked me to write a post about my favorite sermon and I have been coming up with all kinds of excuses because I am not a very good writer. After weeks of trying to run away from writing it…God won! 😅 (as always) and I decided to put down what has blessed me. My favorite sermon is a beautiful one by Pastor Steven Furtick! But doesn’t he only have beautiful sermons?!
Anyway, this one really stood out for me. I must have rewatched it about 5 times-this week being my 6th-because I had to remind myself of its impact on my life!
My favorite sermon is called IT HAD TO HAPPEN!!! It was preached 4 years ago but I’m sure it is still blessing people now. I was compelled by the Holy Spirit to bless others, so I encouraged some of my friends to watch it while I rewatched it myself😂 that’s how much it blessed me and perhaps this post is another opportunity for more people to be blessed by it.
In this sermon, Pastor Steven talks about Paul and his journey to Rome. Paul went through so many obstacles-very many unexpected incidents. He had been imprisoned for preaching the gospel countless times but in this particular scripture, he was on his way to stand trial before Caesar.
On their journey, they almost died but they found themselves approaching land. Paul and the rest of the people ended up on a small island called Malta (Acts 27). He wasn’t supposed to be there but there he was!
Pastor Furtick asks, what is Malta? And this was his definition of the Island Malta. It is a place where you didn’t expect to be on your journey in life. It could be your job, your relationship, your spiritual journey, etc. but here you are! Obstacle after obstacle! It’s a journey you didn’t see coming but it happened.
Like many of you, I relate to Paul because I’ve been to Malta. Not so long ago, right before I conceived, God showed me I would have a baby boy! I was excited, ecstatic! But I landed on the island of Malta where I experienced various obstacles! I was in and out of hospital for months and months! But just like Paul told his companions in Acts 27: 23-24 that God had told him he would get to Rome, but he didn’t tell him how the journey to Rome would be, I held onto that.
Malta had to happen...I later realized that it had to happen because my experiences there developed me and helped me grow wiser spiritually. My faith in God has grown stronger. These are the best things that have happened to me.
God needed me to raise his son in his ways. This would happen after I spent some time in Malta. Just like Paul later realized that he had to go through Malta so he could heal the sick, the whole island of Malta got healed and the people who were transporting him to Rome as a prisoner got to see the Lord’s power at work! It was all for the Glory of God!
So, to conclude all this, I know we all go through a Malta season in our lives but if we hold onto God’s promises and have our faith in him, we will later realize that these things had to happen like that! Hang in there, you are doing well. Remember like the saying goes, whatever doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger! What won’t kill you is a Malta experience!
God bless you.
