If It doesn’t scare the crap out of you, Its not faith!

I should say that I have planned on doing this for a couple of months. It is the hardest thing to start something new but after yesterday’s sermon from Holly Furtick “I Don’t Think I’m Ready For This”, I finally decided to take that leap of faith and step into this unknown world.

In her sermon, Holly explores the book of Judges 6:1-24. Here we meet the Israelites in distress, under attack from the Midianites and in hiding. Unfortunately, like many of us who throw pity parties, the Israelites made some terrible decisions that led them to this place of hiding. They sinned and did evil (we all keep finding ourselves here). So God punished them for 7 years to the point that they cried out to Him to help them. But because he is an ever loving God, he sent them not only a prophet but also someone amongst them to save them from the Midianites.

Just like the rest of the Israelites, we meet Gideon in hiding. Such a cowardly thing for someone who God called a warrior and who was chosen to save his people. However, Gideon did not see himself as a warrior. Just like many of us, his current state did not allow him to see God’s perspective of him. All he saw were the negative things about his life. Eventually, after testing God, Gideon accepted his calling and he later saved his people.

Pastor Holly Furtick encourages us to have the courage to start. All we need is enough faith. Holly discusses four things which we should know when God calls us. First is that He calls us according to our potential, secondly, that He prepares us along the way, thirdly, He is patient with us, and lastly, God gives us peace markers. Therefore, instead of focusing on our past mistakes, our painful experiences, etc., we need to take bold (first) steps even when we do not feel like it is possible. God always fights for us but he expects us to do our part. According to Holly, “When God gives you an assignment, he makes it big enough for you to question it, and small enough for you to take the first step.” She further encourages us to not wait for the perfect time, instead, we should trust God and accept our calling no matter how uncertain it may feel like. Abraham did it, Moses did it, Esther did it, among so many other bible characters. If they did it, so can we.

We are never going to reach perfection. Do not hide in your cave and wait for a perfect moment to take action, do it afraid and trust God to guide you. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us not to worry or be anxious but rather to give thanks to God in every circumstance, send up our prayers and requests to him and that he would give us a peace that no one will understand (mind you, Paul wrote this in a PRISON!)

So today as I hold captive my fear and write my first blog post. I ask you to join me and do what it is that you feel God is calling you to do. Do not make God wait for a long time, yes he is patient but you are only delaying his purpose for your life.

I pray that God may give you that boldness to walk into what He is calling you to do.

With love and prayers,

Resty Kansiime
